安全都市づくり。生活支援システム、防災・環境教育、災害時の心理や生理、避難行動や群衆歩行の特性、空間の管理や認知など。人々の命や財産、機能をまもることを目的として、都市の空間や資源を総合的に制御し管理するための理論の構築をめざしている。

Starting from fire prevention and evacuation planning in cities and buildings, he is conducting research on residents' response behavior of to fires during earthquakes and the evacuation behavior of residents from tsunamis and torrential rain disasters, and exploring the nature of resilient communities in cooperation with citizens in various regions. In the open seminar of the Research Centre for Urban Safety and Security, he introduces related research of Kobe University and other institutions and discusses it with local citizens.
